Be The Difference: Belonging is the Support We Need

What determines if an individual is a “success” story or a “cautionary” tale? Is it talent? Is it resilience or grit? Is it simply luck? Gaelin Elmore knows that stories of caution and success have more things in common than we’d care to admit. He knows because he lived it. Mr. Elmore’spowerful story has motivated and inspired thousands, but instead of using his story to focus on “success,” he uses it to shed light on the importance of belonging and “support.” Throughout this keynote, attendees will be challenged and inspired to be individuals who CARE about belonging, because belonging is ‘the difference’ between a story of success and a tale of caution.

The fundamental difference between stories of “success” vs tales of “caution”
The transformational power of belonging
How to support others using the CARE model

The Belonging Need: Understanding belonging to go from surviving to thriving
Belonging is a crucial, innate need that influences our daily decisions, motivation, problem-solving, and overall well-being. Genuine belonging fosters resilience and positive health outcomes in us, and those that we serve. This workshop addresses the power of belonging through the 4-directional model; internal, horizontal, vertical, and external. This workshop will empower participants to embrace belonging and bridge the gap for others while offering a fresh perspective and intention for impactful work.

How belonging impacts development
Why belonging matters in the workplace
And how belonging allows us to successfully serve in our roles

He works with organizations and people to become belonging-informed in order to help children overcome trauma and unleash their potential. His own belonging journey lead Gaelin to the National Football League, and now stages, boardrooms, and organizations, across the country, aiming to inspire, encourage, and equip others to think differently about their work and its long-term impact on others. Conference Presenter:

Dr. Dianne Berg is an associate professor and licensed psychologist at the Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) at the University of Minnesota. She has been working clinically with transgender and gender diverse children, adolescents, and adults for over 20 years. She is a co-founder and current staff member of the National Center for Gender Health (NCGH), a philanthropic initiative of ISGH whose mission is to 1) promote scholarship that centers the lived experience of trans and gender diverse people; 2) challenge cisnormativity in healthcare; and 3) promote positive sexuality. Dr. Berg is an author of the Gender Affirmative Lifespan Approach, the theoretical framework guiding the NCGH’s scholarship as well a co-author of the Child Chapter in the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care Version 8.

Conference Objectives:

During Moving Toward Gender Competency, participants will learn to how to:

Understand the importance of a developmental lens when working with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children, adolescents and adults.
Discern the current scholarship, dilemmas and considerations in clinical mental health practice with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children, adolescents, and adults.
Apply the core therapeutic components of the Gender Affirmative Lifespan Approach to clinical work with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children, adolescents, and adults.
Recognize the complicated political climate in the United States with regard to anti-trans legislation and its impact on transgender and gender diverse people as well as those who provide gender health care.
